Racing at the Ski Club of Ireland
Racing is an important part of the Ski Club of Ireland’s activities. It provides members with the chance to test their technical skills, measure improvement, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with friendly competition.
There are two main categories of racing:
-
Recreational Racing: For members who enjoy the challenge of skiing around poles and, just as importantly, the fun and friendships that come with competing alongside peers.
-
Race Squad: For members who want to take racing more seriously. This squad trains regularly and competes at national and international levels.
If you’re curious about racing and want to get involved, you’re welcome to visit the club on Sunday mornings between 9:00–11:00am, when training is in progress, or contact racing@skiclub.ie for more details.

Racing Abroad
Our teams regularly compete on dry slopes in the UK, where they race against other clubs and gain valuable competitive experience throughout the year. During the winter season, they also travel to Europe to take part in a variety of snow-based competitions, giving athletes the chance to test themselves in different conditions and against strong international fields. Many of our top racers strive for a place on the Irish Ski Team, with several achieving this goal and proudly representing Ireland at major events, including the World Championships and even the Winter Olympics.
For young athletes considering racing, the best place to start is at the Youth Race sessions on Sunday mornings.

Training
The Race Squad is an active group representing the Ski Club at home and abroad, including internationally recognised FIS events. The squad is made up of:
-
Minis (ages 8–11)
-
Children (12–15)
-
Youths (15–18)
-
Top Squad & Adults
Training takes place at weekends under the guidance of experienced race instructors.

Races & Competitions
The Ski Club of Ireland runs a full programme of races throughout the season:
-
Club League Races: Held on the first Sunday of every month from October to March (dates confirmed annually).
-
End-of-Season Championships: Taking place each April (2026 date TBC).
These events are open to members of all levels, from recreational skiers looking for fun to those aiming to sharpen their competitive edge.
